First responders are still working to manage widespread inundation caused by the passing severe weather.
A significant emergency was declared in the town of Monmouth, south-east Wales, where individuals were rescued or evacuated from flooded homes after heavy downpours on Friday.
On Sunday morning, four severe alerts, warning of life-threatening conditions, were still in effect, alongside dozens of alerts in England. River levels on the Monnow River surpassed all-time highs, topping levels recorded during past storms.
Homes, businesses, transport networks, and power grids all suffered from significant flooding in Welsh regions, officials confirmed.
Data indicated that around 20 properties in England were flooded due to the severe conditions, including some in the Cumbria region.
As the storm system moves away, a sharp temperature drop is expected to sweep across the United Kingdom, bringing sub-zero conditions and possible snow and ice.
Over the weekend, the UK experienced its coldest evening since spring, with mercury readings plunging to -7C in a Scottish location.
A decline of around 5C will shift unseasonably warm autumn readings to single digits nationwide, with peak temperatures on Sunday at about 11C in south-east England before further cooling at the week's beginning.
"While Storm Claudia moves south, high pressure to the northwest will bring a chilly Arctic air across the UK," a weather expert stated. "This results in much colder weather than recently, and, while generally drier, there is also a potential of snow and ice. Widespread frosts are anticipated, with readings falling as low as minus seven in some places next week, and daily maximums remaining in single figures."
He added, "Couple this with a brisk northerly wind, and there will be a marked wind chill. This represents a significant shift after a extended period of unseasonable warmth."
Public health agencies have activated a warning for low temperatures for several English regions from Monday, while environmental agencies have cautioned that flooding may continue throughout the coming days.
The low-temperature warning is in place from 8am Monday until 8am next Friday, including the East Midlands, West Midlands, northeast, northwest, and Yorkshire region.
