The newest Far Cry instalment that audiences dived into was Far Cry 6, that starred Giancarlo Esposito as the bad guy, Antón, and debuted during October 6, 2021. Throughout the franchise, it is known for embracing violence and insanity with the same glee, all while telling engaging, politically driven tales. It’s no surprise that FX's recent announcement for a Far Cry seasonal program attracted two producers whose projects have exemplified all of those things.
Based on Ubisoft's successful video game franchise, the short-run anthology series is set to premiere on Hulu and is being made by FX Productions. The show will also parallel the video games' format by having a fresh setting and cast of characters in each season.
Rob Mac, producer of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Noah Hawley, the talent behind FX's Alien: Earth and Fargo, will work as lead producers on the series under their companies, More Better Productions for Mac, and 26 Keys for Hawley. They will be partnered by Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts, Jackie Cohn for More Better Productions, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television.
The network enjoyed magnificent partnerships with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a combined six series and 32 seasons of television, and we are thrilled that they are teaming up for Far Cry,” commented Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, in a announcement. “I have no doubt that they will tell this story in a way that is innovative, engrossing, and incredibly entertaining. We also want to appreciate our partners at Ubisoft for placing confidence in us with this popular property.”
Mac will also star in the show, but as of now, we have no details on what role that might entail. Hawley's Alien: Earth was recently approved for a second instalment, with FX and Disney finalizing a new comprehensive agreement with the producer.
“Getting to work together with Noah Hawley is a dream realized,” remarked Rob Mac. “Ubisoft has been exceptionally generous, trusting us with one of the most famous video-game realms ever created. And along the way, my FX partners continues to lift me up with their constant trust and assistance.”
“The aspect I admire about the Far Cry game series is that it’s an anthology-style series. Every title is a take of a theme, the same way each season of Fargo is a adaptation on a premise,” explained Hawley. “To develop a large-scale action show that can change from year to year, while always delving into the essence of society through this multifaceted and chaotic lens, is a ultimate goal. I’m eager to work with Rob and introduce our shared irreverent, daring approach to the television.”
A release window for when we can look forward to the new Far Cry show has not yet been revealed. The series will premiere on Hulu in the United States and on Disney Plus globally.
