Warning: spoilers ahead - This piece reveals details from Celebrity Traitors conclusion
Over the course of the show, audiences saw murders, double-crosses, intense glares, and an unforgettable incident that pierced the overwhelming tension.
However on the final evening, the ultimate victor of the inaugural Celebrity Traitors emerged triumphant.
From 19 contestants, just a handful remained: Deceivers and faithfuls competing for the winnings.
Soon, the competition tightened to only three contenders: the remaining contestants.
In the end, funny man Alan Carr emerged as the winner, in a surprising outcome that went viral and made him tearful.
"This has been destroying me, my apologies," he exclaimed, admitting to the other players that he'd always been a traitor. "I feel terrible about this."
"You did brilliantly," they consoled him. "Everything's fine."
Social media immediately exploded with this development. "The worst deceiver being the most effective player," wrote a viewer.
"It couldn't have been a better conclusion," wrote another, while a third called it "the television highlight of the year."
His chosen charity, a cancer charity, gets to keep all the prize money, with the total amount amounting to eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.
Alan Carr's transformation from giggle liability to strategic player was among the most memorable aspects of the series.
But his win still shocked viewers surprised, as noted by industry observers.
"The idea of Alan, of all people, pulling off a masterclass in deception felt about as likely as him maintaining composure through his comedy routines."
During follow-up conversations, fellow players explained the reasons nobody had truly doubted him.
"He might have come down to breakfast in traitor attire and I still wouldn't have thought he was a traitor. I was too busy laughing," a player said.
"The majority didn't target him because how does one vote for someone who is so charming?" asked another celebrity.
The winner stated he had "absolutely loved" his time on the show.
"I want to participate once more... I doubt it would work a second time!"
Thursday evening's installment was extended to 70 minutes on television. There was a different start than typical episodes, as every celebrity were aware who would appear at the breakfast table.
There was some very uplifting, and very un-Traitors-esque soundtrack, as the episode revisited key scenes from each of the finalists' time in the castle.
True to form, Alan Carr provided unforgettable quotes.
"To be honest, I started this game a bit of an anxious mess. I've thrown some really good friends to save myself, I've murdered beloved figures openly. Apparently I'm a better liar and player than I believed."
At the same time, a different player noted that being in the final was "way more stressful than competing with England", while someone else said he was "completely amazed" to have made it so far.
In the beginning of the finale, several players seemed to be attempting to become the new style icon of the castle, taking over from an earlier departed fashionable contestant.
The winner appeared at breakfast looking like a 1950s US chat show host in patterned burgundy attire, later switching into an embellished light-colored outfit.
However, he got outstyled by a fellow player's maroon velvet tuxedo. What a look.
Following this was the competition, with the remaining contestants getting on board a locomotive called - of course - The Deceivers' Railway.
This task involved ripping up images of eliminated players. Have sympathy for a player who managed to get hit on the head THREE times by the cover of a heavy wooden box.
Soon after, it was time for the elimination discussion.
The deceivers made a pact beforehand, vowing to stick together. "We've come a long way, I'm not going to betray him," stated a player, while the other simply laughed.
However, one adhered to their agreement. But, having slipped unnoticed for most of the game, their partner still received the majority elimination votes.
The remaining traitor looked like to be experiencing significant distress to be the final deceiver remaining. "Now I'm on my own, I feel terrified," he said. "I'm unpredictable, a rudderless ship."
Online platforms and onlookers were similarly upset.
"I hoped against that player to be banished. An endearing deceiver," commented an observer.
"You will forever be remembered in Traitors history," wrote a different viewer.
However, there remained no time to focus on this departure. Soon, they were at the final stage - which was what we were really all here for.
The last players stood over the fire pit. And the alliance collapsed, just when it was most crucial, in an absolutely shocking development.
One contestant was eliminated in dramatic fashion - after a shock vote from their ally, who turned against them.
"It hurts to be stabbed in the back last minute in that manner," said the eliminated player. Subsequently, we learned that when they message, the betrayed player refers to the other by a betrayer's name.
Ultimately, just three players remained in the game: the last participants.
One player, appearing quite pleased, voted to end the competition. The same decision was made by a different player, and it all came down to the third, who made the identical choice - resulting in the deceiver emerged victorious.
According to commentators, the moment where the other players comforted the winner was "beautiful TV". "I predict it could be a contender for memorable moment at television honors," they commented.
Happily, the champion soon recovered from his bout of tears, and could finally appreciate the moment.
"Such an emotional journey. I thought I was terrible at deception, my expressions gave me away and now I stand the champion," he said.
And he even joked about the memorable elimination - his best friend in an early episode - by reaching over the host in the final scene and touching her cheek.
"You've got something on your face," he said, with his trademark giggle.
The last few weeks of famous people scheming, scheming and sometimes unexpected moments may feel like one big crazy jumbled dream. But it really did all happen. It will be remembered fondly.
